Business

Council provides a range of services and programs to support the development of one of the fastest growing regions in Australia.

Food Safety Training

Council Environmental Health Officers administer the Queensland Food Act 2006 Food Safety Standards, which relate to those food businesses which local governments are required to licence*.

Council conducts regular free food safety training courses (non-accredited), aimed at providing its primary clients, the city's licensed* food business staff, with an understanding of the causes and the prevention of food-borne illness (food poisoning).

Note: as Council is not a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) for the purposes of the Food Act 2006, completion of Council's food safety training course will not provide the required certification to become a Food Safety Supervisor. For details on becoming a Food Safety Supervisor, please refer to the web page shown below in Key Information.

* licensed under the Queensland Food Act 2006

Cost and eligibility

Council courses are free to eligible persons who are directly associated with any food business in the City of Gold Coast which is licensed with Council under the Queensland Food Act 2006. This includes all commercial take-aways, bakeries, restaurants, food vans, caterers, aged care facilities, school canteens (private) and vessels.

Other people not directly associated with a Council licensed food business are welcome to undertake the course at a cost of $92 (inclusive of GST).

If you are not sure of your eligibility for the free course, please contact us using the phone or email address provided below, for advice prior to booking a course.
