Southport Mall improvements

The City is improving Southport Mall (Scarborough Street to Marine Parade) to support the area as a key precinct for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) and as a growing commercial and community hub.

There are seven works packages and they include:

February to August 2017

  • Streetlight pole replacement – complete
  • Shared path upgrade for Nerang Street / Marine Parade – complete
  • Marine Parade Ramp upgrade – complete
  • Scarborough Street pedestrian crossing upgrade

September 2017

  • Road resurface
  • Asset renewals
  • Gold Coast Highway pedestrian crossing upgrade

Overall these works seek to:

  • Improve pedestrian amenity and the quality of paths.
  • Implement the objectives of the Southport Priority Development Area Streetscape Guidelines.
  • Improve lighting for safety and decorative purposes.
  • Provide legacy infrastructure for GC2018 and future events.

The first project will commence 20 February 2017 with installation of new streetlights (Smart Poles). This will include trenching works along both kerbs and some paving and furniture replacement will be coordinated at the same time.

During construction we will be working to minimise disruptions and reduce impacts to the community. Please also be aware of some minor temporary pedestrian path detours and that temporary parking changes may occur.

We will be providing updates to the project as the improvements are underway.
