Celebrate Gold Coast

Celebrate Gold Coast is a free family event that provides an opportunity for our community to kickstart summer and celebrate everything that is quintessentially Gold Coast - our culture, lifestyle, food and sense of fun.

Heading the entertainment line-up this year is ARIA award-winning indie pop band Sheppard. The group's second single, Geronimo, achieved platinum status in April 2014.

This year's highly interactive event will focus on our enviable beach lifestyle, inviting you to slap on some sunscreen and slip off your shoes and immerse yourself in a wide range of surf and sand themed activities. These activities include:


On the stage

10.15am - Make-A-Wish Australia
10.45am - Live music with Microwave Jenny
12pm - Live music with Sheppard

On the beach

7am and 8.30am - Tai Chi, improve your mind and body connection through control of breath and movement
7am - 12pm - Helicopter flights, $50 per child and $75 per adult
7.30am - 11.30am - Helicopter workshops, every half hour
7.30am and 9.30am - Yoga, a relaxing and energising class that benefits the mind, body and soul. Bring your own mat.
7.30am - 10.30am - Surfing lessons, Walkin’ on Water Surf School are hosting one hour surf lessons, every hour
8am - 12pm - Beach volleyball, learn to play beach volleyball and watch the 2014/2015 Queensland State Volleyball Tour, King and Queen of the Beach event
8am and 9am - Holistica, a fun group fitness class that combines strength, yoga, pilates and jiu-jitsu. Bring your own mat.
9am and 11am - Beachology sessions, explore the beach environment and learn about what lives at the beach and the importance of beach ecology
9.30am - Surf rescue demonstration, a mock rescue involving City of Gold Coast Lifeguards and Surf Life Saving Queensland

In the Park

7.30am, 9.30am and 11.30am - Cooking demonstrations by Paul Bullpitt from My Kitchen Rules
8.30am and 10.30am - Cooking demonstrations by Chef Nikita from Green House Factory
8am - 11am - Cruiser clinics, learn how to ride a skateboard as a means of transport
9.30am - Skate demonstration, enjoy the thrills and spills involved in the great sport of skateboarding
9.30am - 1pm - Massage, Essential Muscle Therapy are offering free five minute massages
11.30am - BMX demonstration, Tim Wood's freestyle BMX stunt demonstration

In the Park (all day)

Active and Healthy - visit the team to collect the latest Active and Healthy booklet
Active Travel - visit the Active Travel stall for cycling information, tips and advice
Lifeguards - see our City’s Lifeguard equipment and the little ones can enjoy a colouring in activity
Vegemite SurfGroms - visit the team to sign up for Australia’s most exhilarating junior sport programs of surfing and stand up paddle boarding
Markets - pop up art and craft markets
Surfboard display - a pop up display from SurfWorld
Surf cars - classic beach cars on display including beach buggies and Kombis
Surfboard shaping - a master of the art of surfboard shaping, Richard Harvey, will demonstrate how he hand crafts surfboards
Queensland Cricket - sample some Milo whilst trying your hand at cricket
Make-A-Wish Australia - gold coin donation face painting and great raffle prizes to be won
Rock climbing wall - tallest portable wall in the world at 11 metres! Eight different climbs ranging from easy to hard
Sand sculpting - learn the art of sand sculpting
102.9 Hot Tomato - broadcasting live onsite with great giveaways
Kids on the Coast - collect the latest issue of Kids on the Coast magazine

Location: Queen Elizabeth Park, Marine Parade, Coolangatta

Parking: Marine Parade and Griffith Street. You can also ride, scooter or walk to the event.

Celebrate Gold Coast will travel to the hinterland in 2015, where the city's freshest food and finest wines will be on display.
