Abandoned vehicles and goods

Abandoned vehicles can be an unsightly and sometimes unsafe intrusion into our local streets and reserves.

Report an abandoned vehicle

You can let us know about an abandoned vehicle by visiting Report a problem - Vehicles and submitting your report online.

You can also make your report by downloading our mobile app and submitting the request from your mobile device, or by downloading and returning the abandoned vehicle service request form.

Find the Abandoned vehicle service request form below.

If you prefer, you can call us on 07 5667 5991 or email mail@goldcoast.qld.gov.au. Please note, the vehicle must have been left in the same location for more than a week for a complaint to be lodged.

Our City Law officers will investigate reports of abandoned vehicles and determine what action needs to be taken. We need to first establish if a vehicle is actually abandoned, or if it has been left unattended for a valid reason.

Surrender your vehicle

If a vehicle has been impounded and the owners would like to relinquish it to the City, they will need to fill out a vehicle surrender form.

Find the Vehicle surrender form below.

Register of abandoned vehicle impoundments - unknown owners

Refer to Notification of abandoned vehicle impoundments - unknown owners for details of vehicles that have been impounded for safe keeping by the City where the vehicle owner is unknown (and notice could not be served personally).

Release of impounded vehicles and goods

Impounded vehicles and other goods will only be released to the rightful owner/agent and only after an abandoned vehicle/impounded goods release form has been successfully lodged with payment of applicable fees (refer to the current Register of Fees and Charges for release fee details). Persons claiming right of possession/ownership must provide evidence of ownership before any vehicle or goods will be released.

Find the Abandoned vehicle/Impounded goods release form below.

Impounded vehicles must be collected from the City's abandoned vehicle yard during the specified vehicle release times. For current release times please phone 07 5667 5991.
