Wandering pets

All animal owners have a duty to provide proper fencing and enclosures to prevent their pets from wandering. A roaming pet is in danger of becoming lost, injured or killed and can be annoying to neighbours.

To report wandering dogs, cats or other pets in your neighbourhood, please contact Animal Management on
07 5667 5990. The more information you can provide (e.g. a specific address, animal description and when it is usually out), the better we can action the complaint.

Nuisance pets

All pet owners have a duty to ensure their pet is not a nuisance to the wider community.

If you have an issue with nuisance pets (dogs being walked off-leash, defecation not being picked up and deposed of appropriately, dogs not under effective control or within prohibited areas) you can forward the details of your issue to mail@goldcoast.qld.gov.au, or call us on 07 5667 5990 to discuss your problem. The more information you can provide (e.g. a specific location, time and description of animals), the better we can action the complaint.

Concerns about the welfare of an animal

You can report concerns about the welfare of an animal or suspected animal cruelty by calling 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625) or by visiting the RSPCA website and completing an online form.

Excess animals on a property

To provide a safe and happy environment, there is a limit to the number of pets that can be kept on the Gold Coast. Additional animals may be kept upon approval of a permit and payment of an additional registration fee.

If you know someone who is keeping an excess number of animals without a permit, let us know by visiting our Report a problem – Animals page and completing an online form, or calling us on 07 5667 5990.
