Access to our beaches for everyone

The City provides and supports a range of initiatives to increase access to our beaches.

Accessible beaches

We are implementing a range of initiatives to improve access to beaches. The key initiatives are described below.

Beach matting and beach wheelchairs at Burleigh Beach

The City recently undertook a trial of beach matting and beach wheelchairs at Burleigh beach. The trial, which ran from September 2016 to April 2017, was a partnership between the City and the Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park Surf Life Saving Club.

Thanks to the overwhelming support of the community and the partnership of Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park SLSC in delivering this trial, the Mayor has made it a priority in the upcoming City Budget 2017-18 to fund and deliver this beach access trial on a permanent basis.

For more information about beach access at Burleigh please visit the Burleigh Heads SLSC website, phone 07 5535 2419 or email admin@burleighslsc.com.au.
