Girl Active program

Girl Active is about encouraging girls and women of all ages to lead healthier and happier lives.

Girl Active program

From December 2015 through to April 2016, summon your senses, take a risk, and reach your health and fitness goals.

Girl Active is about encouraging girls and women of all ages to lead healthier and happier lives by reconnecting with others through a range of fun and supportive activities and events.

For girls and women, the pathway to living a strong and healthy life is paved in part by participation in sport and physical activity. Whether being armed to conquer the physical challenges of daily living or developing the mental fortitude to overcome life’s obstacles and inner struggles, the more active girls and women are, the more prepared they are to reach their goals, handle what life presents to them and draw upon their own power when necessary.

So get your mum, daughter, sister or friends together, get the Girl Active program, and get out there and have a go today!

Note: Some classes take a break over the holiday time or start in January so please check with the instructor prior to attending.

  • Girl Active running

You don’t have to go fast, you just have to go

Girl Active running celebrates women everywhere who are running, jogging or walking their way to a more active lifestyle. Running with other buddies or part of a group can encourage us to try a little harder, introduce us to undiscovered roads and creates opportunities for catch-ups, laughs and a shared sense of success.

The Gold Coast is home to the Gold Coast Airport Marathon (GCAM) which occurs each July. There is no time like the present to set a goal for the year ahead. From the Suncorp Bank 5.7 kilometre Challenge and the Southern Cross University 10 kilometre run, through to the ASICS Half Marathon and the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, there is an event for you.

To help you get started on your running journey, Girl Active, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon and the RK Pod women’s run club have joined together to offer all girls and women the encouragement and opportunity to get started. Information on how to enter the Gold Coast Airport Marathon and a team discount will be provided.

  • Real girl workshops

    Real girl workshops

The aim of the workshops is to empowering girls to be active, healthy and happy.

Girls are under more pressure than ever to be ‘perfect'. We can help them counter this pressure and navigate the tween and teen years with confidence, self-belief and an understanding of their self-worth through building a healthy body image and positive self esteem.

A young women’s self-esteem is linked to having a positive body image. We need our girls to feel confident about their place in society and to encourage them to focus on being healthy and happy every day.

These workshops are conducted by qualified and supportive wellness professionals including Karla Gilbert, Jema Lee from Wellsome, Vicky Reihana from Victoria Jane Fitness and Alicia Ryan from Happyfit.

Each workshop offered begins with an ice breaker activity for the first hour, followed by a relaxed yet fun wellbeing and happiness talk for the second hour, finishing up with a simple, wholesome snack and smoothie cooking demonstration and taste test.

    Happiness and wellbeing workshop topics:

    • Wellbeing, healthy eating and how fitness is fun
    • Body image and positive self-belief
    • Stress and society pressures in an ever changing world.
