Mayor's Annual Christmas Appeal

2017 Mayor's Christmas Appeal

Time to dig deep and donate to the annual Mayor’s Christmas Appeal. This year, Paradise Kids will be the major beneficiary and any donation, big or small, will be greatly appreciated.

Paradise Kids offers art, movement, music, story-telling and safe anger management processes to allow children to grow positively through their loss rather than through repression of their feelings. Children work in groups with an individual trained grief counselling ‘buddy’.

Paradise Kids was founded by Deirdre Hanna and Rev. Dr Ian Mavor as an extension of the services provided by the Hopewell Hospice and, while still a division of the same charity, it has developed its own unique identity. They developed an integral approach to address all aspects of the child - body, mind and spirit. All children grieve differently and may express anger, fear, guilt, repetitive behaviour and regression. These reactions are a normal response to loss of any kind.

Donations of toys, books, art supplies, movie vouchers, gift cards, electronic goods, games, soft toys and CDs for children aged 2-5 years and 6-11 years can be made at the following centres from 16 November to 19 December.

Please place a wrapped gift under the tree (please identify age/gender on gift).

The Paradise Kids choir angels will also be collecting for the appeal at the Mayor’s Christmas Carols at Broadwater Parklands on Saturday 2 December.

Thank you for your generosity and support of this wonderful initiative.
