Join the movement to help shape the Gold Coast as Australia’s most active and healthy city.

Our Active & Healthy team are connecting with individuals and organisations involved in fitness, health, sport, recreation and wellness on the Gold Coast. We're currently developing the next Active & Healthy program, which will run from 15 July 2019 through to 28 June 2020, and would like to work with you to help our community become more active.

To be involved you must have the following:

  • sufficient qualifications in your professional field and experience delivering group-based programs/activities
  • $10 million public liability insurance (individuals or businesses)
  • Senior First Aid – HLTAID003 and CPR – HLTAID001 (for activities that involve physical activity)
  • Commission for Children Blue Card (if working with children)
  • risk management procedures in place.

Activity criteria

One of Active & Healthy's objectives is to encourage inactive residents to engage and regularly participate in physical activity and wellness programs. We focus on increasing the awareness of entry level, low to medium intensity activities that are suitable for people just starting or getting back into regular activity.

Activities must be:

  • of low to medium intensity and cater for beginners
  • delivered in a professional and safe manner
  • community oriented
  • affordable
  • of benefit to local residents and the area in which the activity is held.

Levels of involvement

Active & Healthy supplier

The City of Gold Coast is seeking to align with a range of qualified and experienced fitness, sport, recreation and wellness professionals who are community minded and keen to work with us to improve the health and wellbeing of our community.

The supplier process is currently closed until the beginning of February 2020 with a new three-year procurement process in place for July 2020 to June 2023. To register your interest please email activehealthygc@goldcoast.qld.gov.au

Active & Healthy champion

Are you passionate about helping our community become healthier and happier? Then we want you!

We are looking for qualified and experienced local health and fitness professionals who would like to give back to the community through the provision of a free or low cost community based fitness or wellbeing class in the City’s parks or community facilities. Classes offered must not cost more than $5 per person.

In return for your community service, our Active & Healthy team will:

  • assist with access to a park or open space to conduct the activity in
  • assist with the access to a City community facility. We will consider providing assistance with hall hire if the activity and location meets a specific community need. Please highlight this in your application.
  • promote the class to the local community through the Active & Healthy Lifestyle Guide and our website
  • provide you with an Active & Healthy uniform and A-frame signage
  • provide opportunities to network with the local fitness, recreation and wellness industry.

Requirements

  • qualifications, insurance and certifications listed above
  • provision of at least one affordable (up to $5 per hour) or free community fitness/recreation/sport activity per week or
  • provision of one or a series of free wellbeing/nutrition-based seminars or workshops that provides an education experience for the community. These sessions are held in libraries and must be offered for free to the community.
  • activities must occur within the program's timeframe.

Please note that as a champion you will not be paid a fee by the City to run the activity.

Active and Healthy promotion of third party

If you are running affordable fitness, recreation, sport and wellness activities and programs on the Gold Coast, then we would love to help promote these as listings in the City’s Active & Healthy Lifestyle Guide 2019-20 and on our Active & Healthy online calendar of events.

Who can apply?

  • sport/recreation clubs and community organisations
  • fitness professionals/allied health professionals
  • wellness and nutrition businesses.

Types of activities

  • group fitness/recreation classes in a community facility or private studio/gym (e.g. yoga, tai chi, fitness, hiit)
  • nutrition and healthy/lifestyle activities or workshops (e.g. healthy eating talks, meditation, wellbeing seminars)
  • sports come and try days and training sessions.

In return for your community service, our Active & Healthy team will:

  • list approved activities in the 2019-20 Active & Healthy Lifestyle Guide and on the website
  • provide opportunities to network with the local fitness, recreation and wellness industry.

Requirements

  • current qualifications, public liability insurance, first aid and CPR certificates (if providing a physical activity service) and Commission for Children Blue Card (if working with children)
  • risk management procedures in place
  • if running activities in parks you must hold a valid City of Gold Coast commercial fitness permit. Permit application information can be found on our Commercial fitness training in City parks page
  • activities must be affordable and ideally cost no more than $15 per hour
  • activities must occur within the program's timeframe.

Applications to get involved in our next Active & Healthy program, running from 15 July 2019 to June 2020, are now open.

To be included in the 2019-20 Active & Healthy Lifestyle Guide and on our Active & Healthy online calendar of events:

  • complete either the Active & Healthy Champion or Promotion of Third Party application form
  • email the completed application form plus required documents (qualifications, insurance, certificates) to activehealthygc@goldcoast.qld.gov.au by 17 March 2019.

We will assess your application and confirm by email within three weeks of submission if your activities meet the criteria and are suitable for inclusion. Submission of an application does not automatically mean approval.
