Project overview

While the Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) is the lead agent for the management and conservation of flying foxes in Queensland, Council has resolved to develop a whole-of-city Flying Fox Management Plan in response to community concerns about the number of flying fox roosts on the Gold Coast.

The aim of the plan is to appropriately manage the health and amenity issues associated with identified flying fox roosts in the city.

Community consultation intends to assess where and how flying foxes are impacting on the safety, health, well-being and economy of the city.

Your feedback will enable us to identify who specifically is affected by flying foxes and satisfy the requirements of DERM.

A draft plan will be submitted to DERM for final approval.

External consultants

Environmental consultants Ecosure Pty Ltd have been engaged to assist Council in developing the Flying Fox Management Plan.
