Community and lifestyle education
City of Gold Coast provides a range of programs and services related to community well-being and safety, active lifestyles, pet care and cultural services. Our current programs are:
Active & Healthy: Participate in free or low cost health and wellbeing activities.
Active School Travel: A comprehensive program that assists students and families to find active ways to get to school, such as walking, cycling, taking public transport and carpooling.
Beach and water safety: Promoting surf safety message throughout our schools and community.
Gold Coast Arts Centre Art Gallery: Join a free guided tour, or find out more about the Arts Centre’s regular special lecture evenings with guest speakers.
Gold Coast Arts Centre Professional Development Program: Workshops and master classes on a range of performance, music and arts subjects. The Arts Centre also runs an annual children’s series and youth series of events and performances.
Gold Coast Libraries: Your local library runs year-round programs and events, from using technology to new hobbies to author talks. Browse the calendar of events to find an activity near you. In-service support is also available for teachers, as are library orientation sessions for classes. Services include book and author talks, book week school visits, children’s creative writing competition, class story time, local heritage information, historical photos, history display kits, local studies library tours, online resources student information, online resources teacher in service, reference and readers advisory service and orientation sessions. Graffiti prevention program: Aim to develop students’ sense of responsibility to protect and sustain the environment, and report graffiti in their community.
National Youth Week: It’s a great time to celebrate the wonderful contribution young people make to our city. Some excellent free and low cost events are happening across the city
Pet education: The Pets are part of our city too! program has been designed to build understanding of how to interact safely with pets and the importance of responsible pet ownership, reducing negative impacts not just to the lives of the animals, but also those of their neighbours, the community and our environment. City of Gold Coast runs a FREE education program suitable for children aged 3-5 years and their families.
Stormwater safety: This curriculum linked safety program aims to save lives by educating primary aged students on the dangers of playing in stormwater drains and flash floods.
