Gold Coast Waterwatch

Please note: The Gold Coast Waterwatch Program is currently undergoing review to whilst the City of Gold CoastĀ upgrade their water quality monitoring program and explore the development of a citizen science program of works targeted to begin in 2017-18.

The City and Natura Education were the winners of the 2010 Healthy Waterways Awards - School Award for Gold Coast Waterwatch.

Gold Coast Waterwatch is an environmental education initiative sponsored by the City.

It encourages schools and local community to participate in monitoring the health of Gold Coast creeks and rivers, through water quality sampling and macro invertebrate "water bug" collection.

Local school and community group

Local schools and community groups can invite Waterwatch to their local creek, lake or wetland to learn about aquatic and riverbank habitat.

This educational program provides teachers and students with the opportunity to learn how to measure different waterway 'health' indicators and get an idea of the current state of the waterway.

Waterwatch also provides advice on how water quality can be improved and monitored.

Further information about Waterwatch programs can be found by visiting the Gold Coast Waterwatch website or by contacting the City on 1300 GOLDCOAST (1300 465 326) or 07 5582 8211.
