Disability Projects - Disability Planning Project
The Northern Growth Corridor Disability Planning Project is a joint response from Disability Services Queensland and the City of Gold Coast to emerging community needs.
It targets rapid population growth, an anticipated increasing number of people with a disability and a lack of appropriate services and facilities in the area.
The project will identify opportunities and requirements for disability services, programs, facilities and strategies. Findings will inform future planning for the area by government, community and business sectors.
The project will identify needs for people with a disability in a range of areas including:
- recreation and leisure
- care and support
- community spaces and facilities
- cultural development and cultural facilities
- support for carers, siblings and other personal networks.
The project will contribute to planning by:
- working with people with disabilities, their families, carers and service providers to identify services, programs and facilities needed in the area
- identifying innovative models and options
- finding local opportunities and requirements
- providing information for related projects.
The geographical area for the project includes: Ormeau, Pimpama, Coomera, Upper Coomera, Pacific Pines, Yatala, Cedar Creek, Kingsholme, Helensvale, Maudsland, Oxenford, Gaven, Jacobs Well and Hope Island.
Research for the Disability Planning Project has now concluded. Research involved community interviews and forums, and a review of existing services in order to develop an understanding of current and future needs. We thank everyone who participated and shared their experiences of having a disability or caring for someone with a disability. The research findings are currently being developed into a final report.
If you would like to receive information about the project, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include your name, contact details and the title "Northern Growth Corridor Disability Planning Project".
