Introduction

The Gold Coast Adventure Travel Group (GCATG) was created in 2004 to provide Gold Coast youth/adventure/backpacker operators with a focused and coordinated means of growing members' business. It is supported by Gold Coast City Council and Gold Coast Tourism.

Gold Coast Tourism and Gold Coast Adventure Travel Group to sponsor Independent Travel Exchange

Organisers of the Independent Travel Exchange have announced Gold Coast Tourism and Gold Coast Adventure Travel Group as sponsors for the event in November.

Adventure and Backpacker Industry Conference

A debate on the future of research, why an obsession with price is killing the industry and developing the next generation of leaders are all on the agenda at this year's Adventure and Backpacker Industry Conference (ABiC).

World Youth and Student Travel Conference (WYSTC)

The World Youth and Student Travel Conference is quickly approaching and will include subject areas such as reducing your footprint, creating opportunities for your business and industry insights to help you earn. The conference is scheduled from 22 September to 25 September 2009 in Manchester, UK.

The Tourism Transformation Process - Survey

The University of Queensland is conducting a study on the Gold Coast to investigate how tourism impacts on institutions and economic, social and environmental structures.

If you complete the questionnaire you can select to be placed in the draw to win a $100 gift voucher and $100 worth of Sommariva Olive products.

Tourism Futures Conference
- Great success on the Gold Coast

A national delegation of around 300 industry leaders and government policy makers gathered on the Gold Coast to debate an agenda spanning from climate change mitigation to cutting edge technological applications revolutionising consumer purchasing.

The three-day event tabled issues which present the industry with a watershed in policy direction and also focused on events tourism, destination management, future trends and sustainability.

World Nomads Van-Tastic Adventure comes to the Gold Coast

The World Nomads Van-Tastic adventure is well underway, with the winners of the Queensland leg, New Zealanders Hamish Cross and Adam Rikys travelling and recording their adventures through videos, blog posts, podcasts, and photos.

Dean Cooper

Born and bred on the Gold Coast, Dean loves what the destination has to offer from both a residential and tourism perspective. Dean thoroughly enjoys anything to do with water sports including surfing, boating and fishing. He is happily married with three beautiful kids that are enjoying the benefits of living on the coast. Dean has been a member of the group since its inception and has played as active a role as possible in steering it to where it is today. Our member's businesses specialise in a unique sector and this group allows us a platform to present and deliver outcomes as a united front. Dean is currently supporting the 2009 president after holding that position for several years prior.

Ambassador Report

Dane would like to thank Bruce Nicholls of Tall Ship for hosting last weeks quarterly networking event and would also like to welcome them aboard the GCATG team as a valued new member.

The 'new' and 'improved' brochure has been printed and Dane has been embarking on sales calls to commence its distribution. Dane has also been updating his new blog on Facebook titled 'The Best Job on the Gold Coast' and encourages all members to sign up as a friend and promote the site.

Dane visited Aussie Kayaking Adventures this month and had an awesome time with Steve on the beautiful Gold Coast broad water. It was a spectacular day, with good snorkeling off Wave Break Island. Dane has also been working with the Carlton Brewery constructing a package for GCATG hostel members.
