The Gold Coast Arts Centre is holding auditions for the upcoming 2009/2010 Summer School production of High School Musical 2. Applications are invited from students aged between 15-22 years with strong abilities in singing, dancing and acting. Auditions, by appointment only, will be held on the 2, 3 & 4 October 2009. The Production Team is also seeking applications from students of similar age for positions in the Technical Stream (Sound and Lighting) and the Wardrobe/Costume Stream. Registrations are now open for the Liverpool City Art Prize. This national competition has a $10,000 prize for the overall winner and is open to Australian artists of all levels, regardless of age or location. The registration deadline is 2 October 2009. JamFactory Contemporary Craft & Design Centre Adelaide, is offering associate positions for 2010 in the Ceramics, Furniture, Glass, and Metal Studios. The two-year, practical studio-based program allows associates to explore creative ideas and develop their technical skills while acquiring business and marketing expertise necessary to establish viable careers in craft and design. The Stanthorpe Art Festival 2010 is offering up to $30,000 in prizes and acquisitions. The 18th Biennial Stanthorpe Art Festival aims to showcase contemporary Australian visual arts practitioners. A first prize of $10,000 is to be awarded, with up to $20,000 of acquisitions to be made for the Southern Downs Regional Council Collection. Closing date is 20 November 2009. International conference in Austria: Performing Arts Training Today - Call for proposals. This conference is open to performers from all over the world interested in the research of topical questions and processes in contemporary performing arts education and training. It is open to various performing arts genres and techniques and is not limited to theatre arts. Dates are 28 - 31 October. Council is now calling for submissions from emerging Gold Coast musicians to participate in A-Venue showcasing opportunities. The Community Exhibitions Program at Robina Art Gallery offers arts and cultural organisations, artist collectives and schools the opportunity to exhibit original visual art works for two weeks. Council is calling for nominations for the 2009 - 2010 Regional Arts Development Fund Committee. Gold Coast City Council and Arts Queensland are providing $200,000 to support Gold Coast art and cultural groups this financial year. The Regional Arts Development Fund Committee assesses applications for the distribution of the funds. Nominees must be active community members and can include: local artists, cultural workers, members of cultural groups or local organisations and associations. Winner of 2009 Billy Thorpe Scholarship announced. The talented young musician Alan Boyle is one step closer to becoming a professional artist after winning the 2009 Billy Thorpe Scholarship. Premier and Arts Minister Anna Bligh congratulated the Brisbane guitarist on winning the $10,000 scholarship at the Q Song Awards in Brisbane on 11 August. The scholarship was named in honour of the late, great Australian musician Billy Thorpe, who passed away in February 2007.
Tallai-based Indigenous song writer Lucas Proudfoot was a major winner at the 2009 Q Song Awards. Lucas's song "What's Going On" won the Q Song Indigenous Award.

Young People and the Arts Australia are holding the inaugural QLD Youth Arts Market at the Brisbane Powerhouse. This four-day event will showcase latest works, share ideas through forums and workshops and broaden networks. Some of the presenting companies include: Youth Arts Qld, Queensland Theatre Company, Expression Youth Dance Company and deBASE productions. This free event will be held on 19 - 22 October at the Brisbane Powerhouse - 119 Lamington Street, New Farm. The David Fleay Wildlife Park will be alive with activities and entertainment on Sunday 11 October. Celebrate our unique Australian wildlife and the achievements of the Park's founder on David Fleay Platypus Day. Activities will include boardwalk tours, wildlife talks, exhibits, face painting, Aboriginal dancers, clay modelling, croc feeds, live music and more. The David Fleay Wildlife Park is located on West Burleigh Road, West Burleigh, QLD 4219.

Funding
Australia Council's ArtStart Program provides financial assistance to artists who have recently graduated in creative arts to help them establish a professional arts practice or gain employment as an artist. Grants are provided to fund services, resources and activities that help graduate artists build an income-generating career in their chosen arts practice. Closing date is 26 October 2009. The next Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) round closes on the 30 October 2009. RADF is a partnership program between Arts Queensland and Council that provides financial assistance to support local arts and culture. The grant provides one-off, short-term, project-based financial assistance for community cultural development activities, artists and cultural workers.
