Queensland University of Technology Faculty of Law and Queensland Public Interest Law Clearing House are holding free advice sessions for members of the creative and technology sectors. This is an opportunity to ask professionals about copyright, recording and publishing agreements, media rights, digital distribution, business models, and much more. The sessions will be held on Thursday 29 October and Thursday 26 November 2009, in the Brisbane CBD (venue to be confirmed) from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. The Sustainable Living Festival is calling for applications for its Arts Program. The Program showcases a series of works, events and presentations that relate to the festival's theme: Get Ready for the Safe Climate Decade! Artists will present at the Main Event at Federation Square, Melbourne, 19 to 21 February 2010. Categories in The Arts Program include: film, performance, visual art, talks and workshops. Artists are invited to enter the 2009 Brunswick Street Gallery General Exhibition and Art Prize. There is $10,000 available in prize money and 50 finalists will be selected for the exhibition, which runs from 4 to 17 December. There is no theme or size restriction. Council is calling for nominations for the Gold Coast Australia Day Cultural Achievement Award, open to individuals or groups who have made an outstanding contribution to arts or culture in the city. Gold Coast Film Fantastic is pleased to announce that four Queensland independent films will screen at this year's film festival as part of the Gold Coast Film Fantastic Local Showcase. Local films Girl Clock, I.C.U, Shadows of the Past and Sleeper have been selected. The Gold Coast Film Fantastic will be held from 12 to 15 November in Southport. Council's Cultural Development Unit is presenting Tapping The Money Tree as part of the Creative Juices Professional Development program. This free and interactive grant-writing workshop is available to artists, arts workers and creative businesses. Arts Queensland presents the Queensland Regional Arts and Culture Conference: Artspeak from 18 to 20 November 2009. This conference will bring together more than 200 arts participants and practitioners from across the state and provide a valuable opportunity to explore new ideas and partnerships. The conference will be held in partnership with the Scenic Rim Regional Council, and The Centre at Beaudesert will be the main conference location. No One's Son, a memoir by Ethiopian-born local resident and artist Tewodros Fekadu will be launched on the Gold Coast on 23 October, 6pm to 8pm at the Gold Coast City Council Chambers, Bundall Road, Bundall. The memoir describes Teddy's long journey from poverty in Africa and detention in Japan to a new life in Australia. Bookings are not essential but are preferred. Gold Coast City Choir will launch its Heritage Songs of Queensland CD, a Q150 community activity, on 27 October at the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra Building, Community Drive, Ashmore, 7.15pm. The evening will include performances of songs from the CD and guest performances from the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra Big Band, Jordan Jansen and Future Native. University of Queensland Public Programs and Education presents a professional development seminar for Queensland art teachers on 31 October from 9.30am to 11am at the UQ Art Museum, University Drive, St Lucia campus. The seminar includes a viewing of the exhibition Judy Watson: Heron Island, followed by discussion on the 2010 exhibition program, including interpretive resources. The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is a Queensland Government and Council partnership to support local arts and culture. RADF provides one-off, short-term, project-based financial assistance to support professional development and cultural development activities. Funding of $700,000 has just been announced by Multicultural Affairs Queensland to support community and Local Government organisations to progress multiculturalism in Queensland. Grants are now available for events and projects held in 2010 in the following categories: major multicultural festivals, cultural celebrations, community relations and intervention/capacity building projects and small community projects. The Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts is seeking applications from Queensland-based emerging artists for the Fresh Ground funding initiative. Fresh Ground will provide short-term creative development residencies at the Judith Wright Centre for projects demonstrating a high level of creativity and innovation. Each grant will include cash and in-kind support valued at $15,000. Applications for the first round of funding close 9 November 2009 with successful projects commencing after 1 January 2010. The Lady Mollie Askin Ballet Travelling Scholarship provides support for Australian ballet artists aged 17 to 29 to help them further their cultural education.
