The Edge, the State Library of Queensland's new digital centre, is seeking creative practitioners in sound, screen, writing, sustainability, media, design and journalism to join the Catalysts and Residency program. Applications close on 4 December. Visit www.theedge.slq.qld.gov.au to find out more or to download an application form.

The Australia Council for the Arts invites artists to propose innovative residencies with non-arts business and industry partners for the Connections Residency Program. Artistic residencies are expected to last at least six months and the residency hosts must provide significant cash or in-kind support, and access to suitable expertise and resources. Funding of up to $30,000 is available and the closing date for applications is 7 December. Residencies may start after 1 April 2010. The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival is currently accepting entries for the 17th Annual Film Festival to be held 12 to 20 March 2010 in Austin, Texas, USA. Film categories include: narrative feature, documentary feature, narrative short, documentary short, animated short, experimental short and music video. Entries must be received no later than 11 December. The film festival forms part of the SXSW Conference and Festivals, an event combining music, film, and interactive media. Professional Artist Kit Development Packages are on offer through Q Music to assist bands with a kick start in 2010. The service incorporates a professional bio and photo for print and online media and a one-on-one music action plan with an industry professional. The package costs $350 for Q Music members and $400 for non-members. To register your interest for the first press kit development session in December, contact deb@qmusic.com.au.

The Queensland Premier's Drama Award 2010-11 was recently launched by Premier and Minister for the Arts, Anna Bligh. Artists are invited to submit material reflective of Queensland: its politics, people, culture, history and experience. The material must be original and may take a variety of forms - for example political sketches, play, cabaret elements, multimedia. In July 2010 Queensland Theatre Company will select three finalists for further development with the winning work to be presented by the Queensland Theatre Company in their 2011 mainstage season. Conditions of entry and an entry form can be downloaded from the Queensland Theatre Company's website.

Robina Community Art Gallery From 18 November to 1 December, Gold Coast Magic will present Artists in Paradise - Cultural Transformation. From 2 to 15 December, the exhibition - Through Different Eyes 2009 will feature an eclectic mix of abstract paintings, landscape paintings, digital photography, and batic art. The Robina Gallery is located in the Robina Community Centre complex, Robina Town Centre Drive, Robina. The winning entry and submissions to the recent Master Plan Ideas Competition for a proposed Gold Coast Cultural and Civic Precinct at Evandale can be viewed at www.gcccpm.com.au. Visitors to the website are encouraged to 'have your say' about the proposed ideas and about what you would want in a cultural and civic precinct.

Celebrate another creative year with the Cultural Development Unit at its end of year Creative Juices Networking Event on 2 December, 5.45pm to 8pm in The Basement, Gold Coast Arts Centre. Destry Puia, the new General Manager of the Gold Coast Arts Centre, is guest speaker and entertainment during the evening will include author readings, a Bollywood dance performance and local musician Dan Hannaford. Crossing Divides presents its end of year showcase X-TV Live! on 26 November, 6pm to 8pm at Expressive Grounds, end of Tallebudgera Drive, Elanora. The Crossing Divides workshop program offers young people experiencing disability or disadvantage the opportunity to develop their creativity in the visual and performing arts. Gold Coast Theatre Alliance will launch its 2010 program on 27 November, 5.30pm to 7.30pm at Spotlight Theatre, 187 Ashmore Road, Benowa. Cost is $10 and includes a welcome drink and supper. On 28 November, the Alliance presents a masterclass/workshop on musical theatre with Nancye Hayes, OAM, and Robert Young. The masterclass/workshop costs $30. The Gold Coast Fashion Incubator will host A Very Cheeki Christmas on 2 December, 10am to 12noon at the GC Fashion Incubator, Cnr Bermuda Street and Lake Orr Drive, Varsity Lakes. Cheeki Charlee, swimwear for girls two to 12 years, will parade its spring/summer 2009-2010 collection. Entrance fee is a gold coin donation with funds going to Paradise Kids www.paradisekids.org.au. To tie in with the Q150 celebrations, the Q150 Shed and Queensland's Indigenous communities will present a free workshop as part of the Where we from… Banners Project. The project aims to engage Indigenous people of all ages in the Gold Coast Shire to celebrate their cultural identity through the creation of painted banners. The workshop runs from 10 to 12 December, 12 noon to 5pm at Evandale Park, 135 Bundall Road, Bundall. Lunch, refreshments and materials provided. Gold Coast Arts Centre's Performing Arts Summer School will present High School Musical 2 from 21 to 30 January 2010. A discount applies to tickets purchased before Christmas. Funding

The Rapid Response Cultural Development Fund is a Council program that provides emergency or top-up quick turnaround funding for established projects or for small scale activities that are outside an organisation's or individual's usual program. Guidelines and an application form can be downloaded from www.goldcoastcity.com.au/artfund.

Gambling Community Benefit Fund provides one-off grants of up to $30,000 to approved not-for-profit organisations to assist them to provide community services or activities that benefit the community. The current round closes on 30 November and the next round will close on 28 February 2010. To apply online visit www.olgr.qld.gov.au/grants/gcbf.

The Indigenous Theatre Fund is a joint initiative of the Queensland Government through Arts Qld and the Australia Council for the Arts to strengthen Indigenous theatre practice in the state. A total of $259,000 is allocated to the Fund for distribution in 2010. Proposals from artists and arts organisations to develop Indigenous theatre initiatives are invited and due by 30 November 2009.
