As part of this joint Council and National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council initiative, 100 car engine immobilisers are to be given away to residents. The immobilisers are worth $200 each and the prize includes free installation at a local automotive supplier. Engine immobilisers are the best protection against car theft because they interrupt the power supply required to start a vehicle unless the correct ignition key signal is used. To enter you must own a vehicle manufactured before 2001 that does not already have an immobilising device fitted. To enter, simply email your name, phone number, address and vehicle make, model, and year of manufacture to communitysafety@goldcoast.qld.gov.au or telephone (07) 5581 6603 by 30 October 2009. Seven winners will be drawn randomly.* For more car safe tips visit www.goldcoastcity.com.au/cartheft * Only one entry per household please. Sustainability made simpler at first 'innovation estate'How does a community garden grow? What's a 'walkable neighbourhood'? How, if you build your home facing north, can you reduce your power bill? Gold Coast City Council is encouraging residents to find out about sustainable solutions for their home and community. Council has teamed up with Landmatters, developers of the multi award-winning Ecovillage at Currumbin, to present what is believed to be Australia's first 'innovation estate'. Visit the interpretive centre to find out the benefits of energy and water saving, recycling and climate-sensitive design and other great ideas at the Ecovillage. The display helps take the mystery out of sustainability, by explaining how everyone can help the environment and their own hip pocket. The interpretive centre, at the entrance to The Ecovillage, 639 Currumbin Creek Road, will be open with staff on site from 10am-2pm. Entry is free.
