Riders to get SMART with Mick DoohanThe best of the best 500ccMoto GP World Champion Mick Doohan has teamed up with Gold Coast City Council again this year to help boost motorcycle safety. As patron of the SMART program Mick believes rider education and ongoing training are the keys to avoiding accidents and being the best rider you can be. In 2008, police investigations indicated the rider was at fault in all seven fatal motorcycle crashes on the Gold Coast. Council's award winning SMART road safety initiative was created in an effort to stem these statistics. It offers professional instruction for licensed motorcycle riders to reduce their chances of crashing when faced with challenging road environment conditions. The one day training program kicks off in March and, with a Council subsidy, costs only $45. Top notch professionals will train riders in real world skills on selected public roads around the city and hinterland. The program offers various levels and new training routes. For further information on the SMART program, contact Council's road safety staff on Splash into the City Pools free open dayCouncil's aquatic centres will make sure summer ends with a splash when they throw open the gates for a free community day on Sunday 28 February 2010. Help us create our new Gold Coast brandAn appeal to the city's residents and businesses has been launched to provide valuable input into creating a new brand for marketing the Gold Coast as a dynamic tourist destination. The Gold Coast attracts 10 million visitors a year and the tourism industry is one of our largest employers - an investment that needs protecting. Gold Coast Tourism, in partnership with Gold Coast City Council and Tourism Queensland, has begun the process of developing and delivering a new look for branding the Gold Coast and is asking the experts - you. The objective is to protect and cultivate the city's tourism industry and ensure the Gold Coast continues to stand out in the highly competitive marketplace. Insight from businesses and locals, will help us understand what you think about the city in which you live and how it is viewed as a destination by others. Your input will allow us to uncover a true and clear image of the Gold Coast, something that is distinct in the competitive tourism marketplace. Have your say at www.surveymonkey.com/s/GoldCoastBrand. City's youth get into the VibeThe city's youth are invited to get into the Vibe with more than 200 free or low-cost adventure, extreme and creative activities across the Gold Coast.
