Which is better: the book or the movie?

A film adaptation of Jodi Picoult's novel, My sister's keeper, starring Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin, Sofia Vassilieva, Alec Baldwin and Joan Cusack is due for release here in early August. Reviews of the movie have not been kind and many of Jodi Picoult's fans are upset that the ending has been changed.

Picoult has been getting so many comments about this she has posted an apology on her website, www.jodipicoult.com, saying she had no control over the film project. Although she supports the film, she too was disappointed in the changes made to the story. Picoult has also shrewdly posted a link to Warner Brothers' email address so her fans can complain to the film company directly.

Broadbeach Branch Library nominated for Urban Design Award

The Gold Coast Urban Design Awards is a biennial event celebrating the best of our built environment. Gold Coast residents are being offered the chance, through the People's Choice Award, to send a message to designers, developers and builders on what they value most about urban design.

Feedback on the city's new branch library has been overwhelmingly positive and with this in mind, why not take a minute to vote for the Broadbeach Branch Library in the People's Choice award by the online voting form. Just by voting you go into the running to win $1000 worth of electrical goods to be drawn on the night of the awards, Friday 4 September.
