Gold Coast flora and fauna – for residents

Environmental help

For local residents, City of Gold Coast’s flora and fauna website is a useful resource to help discover and learn more about our unique and diverse plant and animal life here on the Gold Coast.

The site can help if you want to do any of the following:

  • find out what plants or animals are found in your area
  • identify a specific plant or animal species
  • explore the range of wildlife on the Gold Coast.

To get started, head to the website’s Species information page. Here you can choose to:

  • search the website’s database for a specific plant or animal
  • browse or download full lists of Gold Coast species.

You can search for a plant or animal in several different ways:

  • by its common name, e.g. "Koala"
  • by its scientific name, e.g. 'Phascolarctos cinereus'
  • narrow down your search to 'Flora', 'Fauna' or 'Both'.

The site will return a list of all possible matches, after which you can go straight to the page or pages for each species, containing more detailed information which can include description, legal status (e.g. threatened), habitat and Gold Coast locations, and images where available.

The website also offers useful Google mapping tools where you can search for a particular species on the Gold Coast map by location or suburb. Visit the Flora and fauna website now to search and locate plant and animal species, access conservation studies and learn more about our native, threatened species.

You may also find our Protecting wildlife and Protecting landscapes pages useful. They contain more information about native plants and animals on the Gold Coast, and what you can do to help protect them.
