North East Albert Landcare Group

The Pimpama River and Hotham Creek catchments are the focus of the Northeast Albert Landcare Group. The group's long-term goal is to have a continuous riparian zone along the Pimpama River, to improve the health of the river and to provide a wildlife corridor. To achieve this goal, the group regularly undertakes working bees on properties in the catchment removing weeds and planting native species along the creek banks.

The group has restored a degraded section of the Pimpama River which flows through Upper Ormeau Park, Upper Ormeau Road. Numerous weeds have been removed and native trees, shrubs and grasses planted to provide shade for the creek and to assist in bank stabilisation. With support from the Ormeau Progress Association, a playground has been erected and bollards placed around the park to reduce vandalism.

The group works on City of Gold Coast land and private property. The group has built a strong relationship with local quarries, Boral and Holcim. With support from these companies, the group is undertaking further restoration of the Pimpama River, upstream from Upper Ormeau Park.

To find out more information and about how you can become involved visit one of the City environmental volunteer programs Beaches to Bushland, BeachCare or visit the Gold Coast Catchment Association website.
