Waste and recycling on the Gold Coast

Information about waste and recycling services on the Gold Coast is available in one central location.

Waste disposal charges and concessions

City of Gold Coast (City) residents are not charged a gate fee at community waste and recycling centres for disposing of household wastes. To qualify for these fee concessions, the waste must:

  • not be commercial waste generated from any business or commercial activities
  • be household waste from a Gold Coast residential property - evidence of current residency is required
  • be delivered in an eligible vehicle, i.e. sedan, van, small trailer or utility (no trucks) and measure no more than:
    - mixed loads - maximum 2.1 metres x 1.5 metres and 60 centimetres in height
    - clean green waste - maximum 2.1 metres x 1.5 metres and one metre in height.

Disposal of waste exceeding the above size limits will only be accepted at a landfill and charged at the appropriate cost per tonne or part thereof. Examples of accepted household waste and recyclable items can be found on our Waste and recycling centres page.

It is also a condition of free acceptance that recyclable materials be separated and placed in the supplied recycling areas. Sorting your load to separate general rubbish and recyclables is recommended.

For more details, see our Waste Disposal Fee Concession Policy or call us on 07 5667 5976.

Fee concessions for not-for-profit organisations

Local not-for-profit organisations can apply in writing to the City for fee concessions for the disposal of wastes from periodic clean ups. Other fee concessions apply for not-for-profit organisations that are charitable recyclers and those that run community clean up events, such as Clean Up Australia Day.

For more details, see our Waste Disposal Fee Concession Policy or call us on 07 5667 5976.

Charges for disposal

Fees are payable for the disposal of commercial waste. Visit our Landfill disposal fees page for our current price list. Stapylton, Molendinar and Reedy Creek waste and recycling centres are able to accept payments at the weighbridge for commercial waste and other chargeable waste (see below).

Payments can be made by cash, cheque or EFTPOS at the weighbridge, or regular customers can open a landfill account. Please note that there is a 0.6% surcharge for credit card payments.

Some domestic waste items, such as tyres and asbestos, always have a disposal fee. These items cannot be accepted at community waste and recycling centres and must be taken to a waste and recycling centre with payment facilities.
