Matey, 1957
Artist unknown Matey was a friend to thousands of tourists and residents of Surfers Paradise for 12 years. A true mate, he shared no distinction to class, colour or creed.
This memorial was erected by residents and visitors in 1957 – the year man sacrificed a dog in space to help make safe the pathway to the stars.
