GENERATE GC Labs 2019 – call for Expressions of Interest

Expressions of interest are now open for GENERATE GC; a bespoke, two-year program designed to develop new site specific work generated by Gold Coast artists and creative practitioners.

GENERATE GC provides an opportunity for Gold Coast artists and creative practitioners to push boundaries, take creative risks and develop concepts that respond to the unique potential of Gold Coast communities and environments.

The GENERATE GC Lab is the first step in the program and up to ten artists are selected to participate. The Lab is an intensive interdisciplinary residency designed to stimulate ideas and extend artists’ knowledge through provocation and mentoring.

As a participant, you will exchange ideas, work collaboratively and contribute your experience, toward the development of new site specific work on the Gold Coast.

You will work with creative practitioners experienced in developing experimental, large-scale, site-specific or public-participatory artworks. You will be encouraged to think in new ways about your art and how it connects with community, place and work, as well as tackling the logistics involved in scaling up for complex and ambitious projects.

GENERATE GC is a City of Gold Coast initiative delivered in partnership with Salamanca Arts Centre's internationally acclaimed program SITUATE: Arts in Festivals.

Who can apply?

GENERATE GC is for Gold Coast artists and creative practitioners. While you may not regularly earn income from your practice, you must be identified and recognised by your peers as a practicing artist or arts worker.

The opportunity is open to artists and creative practitioners working in the visual arts, design, architecture, fashion, digital media, installation, community arts, live art, performance and other creative pursuits.

Applicants must be:

  • An artist or creative practitioner who at the time of application, resides on the Gold Coast.

Note: You are also eligible if you can demonstrate in your application a significant connection to the Gold Coast (e.g. through substantial periods of residence, family or cultural heritage connection, or work-related involvements).

  • An Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia. Proof of citizenship or residency may be required.

  • Over 18 years of age by the application date.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, artists with disability and artists of linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
