Installation of retractable bollards

Commencing: January 2018
Completion: March 2018

Project information

The City of Gold Coast is installing heavy duty retractable bollards to protect visitors and residents during outdoor events on The Esplanade, Surfers Paradise.

Works to install the bollards between the roundabouts at Hanlan Street and the Soul building will commence in January 2018 and are expected to be completed in March 2018.

The bollards will be raised for large crowd events such as schoolies, the GC600 and New Year’s Eve celebrations. They will also be raised on Sunday mornings to pedestrianise The Esplanade.

These high-impact bollards can repel the force of a large heavy goods vehicle, stopping it in its tracks and saving lives. This is an investment in community safety so our visitors and residents feel safe to enjoy our wonderful city.

Construction details

A full road closure will be required with detours in place while works are underway. We are working to minimise disruptions; however, residents and businesses may notice construction noise and dust.
