High Street / Stevens Street intersection upgrade

Intersection upgrade work

Project description:

We are upgrading the intersection of High Street and Stevens Street, Southport. The left turn lane in Stevens Street at the intersection of High Street will be duplicated to cater for traffic during the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018). A signalised pedestrian crossing will be added to the Stevens Street left turn lane to improve pedestrian access.

To cater for GC2018 sporting events, the Gold Coast Highway will be closed between Stevens Street and Marine Parade from 31 March to 16 April 2018. During this period, parking in High Street between Stevens Street and North Street will be temporarily removed. Parking in High Street will be re-instated after GC2018.

Project objective:

High Street in Southport has been identified as a key north-south diversion route during GC2018. The upgrades will allow for High Street to operate four lanes during the GC2018 and for major events beyond the games.

Commencing: January 2018
Completion: June 2018
Cost: $290,000
