Upbeat

Upbeat

Boost your mood with our new Upbeat program of self-help and mood boosting books, ebooks, CDs and DVDs and wellbeing workshops. Art therapy, music therapy and mindfulness workshops and information sessions are being held from March to June. You can book online through our City Libraries events calendar. More information about the range of resources and workshops is on book coasters blog.

Celebrate the books that are perfect for our coastal lifestyle
If you love a good beach read, you’ll love our Bleach* reads.Whether you want to read about the beach, or on the beach, you can discuss your favourites with us on book coasters at gcbooks.wordpress.com from 6-22 March.

Plus, we’ve teamed up with the wonderful Bleach* Festival to celebrate some of the writes of summer:
Writing the waves
Join Australia’s pre-eminent surf writer, Tim Baker, for a writing workshop on surfing and story-telling.

Barefoot in the books
Kick off your shoes and slip between the pages of stories that evoke the beach, the ocean and the essence of an Australian coastal lifestyle. Join authors, including Tim Baker, Sally Breen and Jesse Blackadder, for readings, wine and cheese, and live music.

Regular library activities include:

Baby rhyme time

Share a fun and interactive time, rhyming, singing and talking with your baby at Baby Rhyme Time sessions at a branch library near you. For parents and babies aged zero to two years.

Story time

These fun-filled sessions aim to foster a love of books and reading, as well as important listening and social skills. Suitable for children aged three to five years.

School holiday fun

A program of activities to keep the kids busy, reading and active in the holidays for children six to 12 years.

Lifestyle and learning

A wide variety of activities and informative sessions to provide opportunities to learn, be inspired and participate in the community.

Confident computing classes

Designed especially for beginners and those who have mastered the basics and are ready to learn more.

Book clubs

Come and connect with other passionate readers, share your thoughts and ideas on books in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and learn about book clubs.

No bookings required - all welcome. Check the online calendar for times and locations.

Events for book lovers

From book groups to book chats, there is something to suit everyone at the book lovers' sessions.

Events for history lovers

A range of activities for history buffs from tracing your ancestry to exploring Gold Coast history.
Participation is free and everyone is welcome.

Literacy support for adults

If you would like help with basic reading and writing skills we can match you with a trained volunteer in the library for free one-on-one help. Please phone 07 5581 7285 to enquire.

Information for volunteers

Volunteers are needed to lead the English conversation circles. If you are friendly and a good listener, like to chat and have a TESOL or equivalent qualification, please call City Libraries on 07 5581 7285.
