You'll find much more to do than you ever imagined at your local branch library. An exciting range of activities and special events are held in City Libraries across the city.

There is no charge to attend any City Libraries event. All session times and booking information is available online.

Living books

Living Books

A Living Book is a real-life story told by its owner. In November, we have two Living Books. 


Joyce Cheyne, motivator, shares her personal story of being taken into care as a child and later the challenges of working in the community health field and raising a family in the face of adversity.

English Conversation Circles

English Conversation Circles are informal weekly sessions that give people who speak English as a second language the chance to practise their conversational English in a relaxed setting with trained volunteers. Sessions are held throughout the week at multiple City Libraries.
