Friends of the Library
Friends of the Library (FOTL) is a group of dedicated volunteers who value their local library service, share common aims and enjoy helping their community.
- Assist in the promotion of the Library Service to the general community.
- Raise funds to support specific projects in consultation with the Library Service, enhancing the services and facilities offered to the Gold Coast community.
- Lobby local, state and federal politicians in matters of library policy and funding for library services.
The Friends of the Library raise funds through:
- the sale of ex-library items at the FOTL shop, which is managed and staffed by FOTL
- the sale of library bags at branch libraries
- various other activities and events

FOTL has purchased various items for the library, including:
- equipment for the children's areas in each branch library including Lego play stations, furniture, activity mats and puzzles
- computer equipment and peripherals, such as date-due docket printers, genealogy and adaptive technology computers, and e-port gaming systems
- art of historical relevance
- promotional materials, such as mouse mats and library bags
Equipment purchased by FOTL has enabled the Library Service to extend the experiences offered to the community when visiting their local branch library.
FOTL also holds events and activities to assist in meeting their aims. Recently, FOTL has:
- held a 100th birthday celebration for a housebound library customer
- sponsored speakers for Australian Library & Information Week and other events
