Getting the transport right was key to the success of GC2018 and showcasing the Gold Coast. The Transport Operations Plan was developed by GOLDOC in collaboration with GC2018 partners and detailed how transport was to operate during Games time for the Gold Coast and other event cities.
The GC2018 partners continued to work closely with residents and local businesses to help the Gold Coast host a great Commonwealth Games in 2018.
City of Gold Coast, together with our GC2018 partners, undertook extensive business and community engagement related to Travel Demand Management ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
The Travel Demand Management program aimed to influence travel behaviour to maximise the people moving capability of the city’s transport network, before, during and post-GC2018.
In the lead up to GC2018, key stakeholders and the broader community were engaged to ensure:
- residents, businesses and visitors were prepared to make informed travel decisions
- spectators and workforce were informed on travel options to get to and from GC2018
- more efficient use of the transport network and services to keep the Gold Coast moving in a period of increased demand during GC2018
- progressive long-term increase in public and active transport use on the Gold Coast.
