Nerang-Broadbeach Road shared path upgrade

Project description:

As the host of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018), we are ensuring our venues are accessible by pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This project forms part of the City’s 2016-17 budget commitment of $10 million to extend our active transport network and create a better connected Gold Coast.

The path is intended to link Nerang Rail Station to Gold Coast Sports Precinct which is a key site for the GC2018. The precinct is located approximately two kilometres east of Nerang Rail Station and includes Metricon Stadium, Carrara Indoor Stadium and Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre. This pedestrian access route will provide a safe and efficient path of travel for GC2018 spectators and workforce.

This project will improve the connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists to our venues. This new connection will create an enjoyable experience for spectators as they journey to our venue at Carrara.

Once completed, these upgrades will contribute to developing a GC2018 transport network that supports public and active transport options for spectators and the GC2018 workforce.

Project details:

We will be building a new path along the following sections:

  • 600 metres on the northern and eastern side of Boulton Road, Nerang
  • 800 metres on the northern side of Nerang-Broadbeach Road between Boulton Road and Lakeview Drive, Nerang.

Schedule of works

Commencing: February 2017
Completion: January 2018
Cost: $3.5 million
