Surfers Paradise, Southern Cross Reserve - revetment wall

Commencing: May 2019
Completion: June 2019
Cost: $467,000

Project information

Remediation works to a 200 metre section of revetment wall in Surfers Paradise, adjacent to Southern Cross Reserve, are underway.

The revetment wall is nearing the end of its serviceable life and works are required to provide ongoing erosion protection from tidal movements.

Construction details

  • placement of rock armour to protect the existing retaining wall
  • reconstruction of the capping block over the wall

Works will be completed between 7am and 6pm from Monday to Friday. Barges, cranes and trucks will be visible during works. We will be working to ensure disruptions are kept to a minimum. However, locals may experience temporary traffic delays and construction noise. Traffic controls will be in place and a section of Southern Cross Reserve will be sectioned off for site works. Access will be maintained for residents. Boating access through Cronin Canal will be limited while the barge is operating. Please follow all signage during construction.

Benefits to the community

  • continued erosion protection along this section of waterfront
  • improved safety for residents located near the retaining wall who utilise the bridge and parklands
