Dunes

Dunes are an important part of the foreshore system on the Gold Coast, protecting the beach's natural ecosystem. The Gold Coast City Council has adopted a policy for the management of the City's coastal dune areas.

The policy contains guidelines for the types of vegetation that can be grown on the city's ocean beaches and outlines the requirements for restoration of coastal dune areas following boulder wall construction.

The policy identifies beach areas of different usage intensities including non-urban areas, residential dunes and major public dune areas.

The policy has basic guidelines for the removal of environmental weeds that grow in dunal areas.
