Accessibility

The Gold Coast City Council website is now easier to use, quicker to access and has been built to provide with a wide variety of technologies and browsers in mind – including assistive technologies.

Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, Council must ensure that information and services provided on the website are available to people with a disability. Council is also committed to providing access to people with technical limitations such as low Internet connection speeds and older browsers.

To do this, our website utilities Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for page layout and formatting, and we continue to improve our compliance with the External website World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) web accessibility standards.

If you encounter web accessibility difficulties, please email us.

Usability

Extensive research and community consultation has been conducted to ensure the current web site design is easy to use. The design employs User-Centred Design principles to ensure a consistent customer user experience.

Site requirements

While the website has been designed to provide access to a variety of technologies and browsers, some visitors may encounter visual differences or technical issues depending on the operating system and browser used. As a result, we recommend visitors ensure they are using a standards-compliant browser.

Applications and plug-ins

Where possible, the Gold Coast City Council prefers to provide information and services in HTML format to ensure maximum accessibility.

However, sometimes it is more accessible to provide some documents in Adobe Portable Document (PDF) format.

Adobe PDF

To view or print PDF documents you will need the software Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded free of charge from External website www.adobe.com.

Known issue using old versions of Adobe Acrobat reader

If you are experiencing a blank screen being displayed when clicking on the link text of a PDF document, one of the following options can resolve the problem:

  1. Download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader free of charge from External website www.adobe.com.
  2. Save the PDF document by right clicking your mouse on the link text, select Save Target As and save the PDF document to your preferred location. Once saved to your preferred location you can view or print the PDF document.

Converting PDF documents to a more accessible format

To convert PDF documents to HTML or plain text formats use the Online conversion tools provided by Adobe at External website www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/access_onlinetools.html.
