Coastal Management
The Gold Coast City Council is commited to the protection and management of one of our most valuable assets - our beaches.
Gold Coast Shoreline Management Review
A review is currently underway of the Gold Coast's sandy beach environments. Everyone with an interest in Gold Coast beaches is encouraged to get involved.
Northern Gold Coast Beach Protection Strategy
The award winning Northern Gold Coast Beach Protection Strategy's objective is to:
- widen the beach and dunes along the Surfers Paradise Esplanade to increase the volume of sand within the storm buffer
- provide additional public open space
- improve surf quality at Narrowneck by the construction of a submerged reef to stabilise the nourished beaches

Dune policy
Gold Coast City Council's award winning Policy for the Management of Coastal Dune Areas provides information about best practice management for coastal dune areas within Gold Coast City.
Dunes are separated into Public, Urban and Non-Urban areas and guidance is given to identify the sustainable location for primary, secondary and teritiary dune vegetation communities.
Fact sheets
Council has produced a number of Coastal Management fact sheets for your information. The fact sheets detail Council operations and provide important information on our beaches.
