Disaster Coordination Centre

The Gold Coast City Council maintains a Disaster Coordination Centre, to be activated in the event of a disaster affecting Gold Coast City. Council staff are responsible for coordinating the response in conjunction with representatives of the lead responding agencies.

The $1.5 million, purpose-built Disaster Co-ordination Centre is believed to be the only stand-alone council facility of its type in the nation. The new centre, adjacent to Council’s SES headquarters in Queen Street, Southport, opened in May 2006.

Fully equipped and designed to operate around the clock, in times of emergency it accommodates Council’s disaster management team and personnel from the Local District Management Group.

This centre highlights the importance Gold Coast City Council places on emergency response and disaster management.

As an adjunct to our state-of-the-art ‘nerve centre’, six community centres and 49 other facilities have been identified across the city as evacuation centres in times of emergency.

During a disaster, the public can seek assistance by telephoning the Centre on 1800 606 000.
