Bushfire

In many Australian cities, homes and bushland are neighbours and the Gold Coast is no exception.

Gold Coast City Council buys bushland areas that have environmental significance to protect them from urbanisation and development. The Gold Coast City Nature Conservation Strategy (NCS) identified our city as one of the most biologically diverse in Australia and it is Council's desire to protect this wonderful diversity.

However, in places where Council-owned bushland areas adjoin homes and properties, action must be taken not only to protect the natural environment but also to reduce the risk of wildfires to homes, properties and lives. This can be a difficult balance to strike as there are many complex issues surrounding fire management and biodiversity conservation.
