About the Awards
Gold Coast City Council’s annual Australia Day Awards program recognises and honours the outstanding achievement of individuals within the Gold Coast community. The awards identify excellence in sporting, environment and cultural endeavours as well as naming a Gold Coast Citizen of the Year and Gold Coast Young Citizen of the Year.

Nominations for 2011 will be called later this year.
Announcing the Winners
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony breakfast on Friday 21 January 2011 at the Gold Coast Arts Centre. All nominators and nominees will be invited to attend the awards ceremony.

Sports Achievement Award
For winning her third straight world surfing title. - Pamela Lowry
Cultural Achievement Award (shared)
For her dedicated service to the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra. - Joel Beskin
Cultural Achievement Award (shared)
For years of service to local theatre and regional arts development. - Humphrey Firkins
Gold FM Community Service Award (shared)
For providing educational opportunities to our youth through the Goda Foundation and the funding of medical research. - Donald Waters
Gold Coast Citizen of the Year
For dedicating his life to working with troubled youth and improving the plight of the mentally ill. - Benjamin Naday
Gold Coast Young Citizen of the Year
For his work on the Junior Council, services to various youth forums, Ashmore Rotary Club and the Tallebudgera Rural Fire Brigade. - Nita Wood
Environmental Award
For her contribution to many environmental projects most recently the Hinterland Regional Park Bushcare Group. - Glen Norris
Gold FM Community Service Award (shared)
For his service to Volunteer Marine Rescue.
