Tiny tots fairy park

fairy All the fun of the fairies in enchanting new park – the city’s first dedicated park for tiny tots. Place: Faerie Park, Inwood Circuit, Merrimac.

Hundreds of fairies, pixies and gnomes were on hand for the official opening of a new City Council park at Merrimac at the weekend.

Faerie Park in Inwood Circuit, Merrimac, has been designed with youngsters in mind, capturing the enchantment of a fairy garden, complete with toadstool ‘magic’ circle, troll bridge, goblin’s cave and wishing well.

The park was opened on Saturday with about 300 people attending for two hours of fun and fantasy for tiny tots.

twoThe park – the first of its kind for the city -  is the idea of Divisional Councillor, Jan Grew, who wanted to provide ‘something special for younger children’.

She said the park, with its magnificent mountain views and its beautiful shady fig trees lent itself perfectly to the creation of ‘something magic’ for children.

“Faerie Park is a perfect place for creative play and storytelling. It also has a traditional playground, with swings and spider web climbing net, to add to the fun of the park.”

She said the 12 painted toadstools, along with artwork on the pathways, were the work of local creative businesses.

The opening celebrations featured fairy face painters, story telling, treasure hunts, an enchanting play and ‘fairy food’.

Parking is limited in Inwood Circuit, so visitors might need to park in Ghilgai Road or Macadie Way, with access via a connecting footway.
