Supporting community groups
Gold Coast City Council is committed to supporting the diverse community organisations that operate within the city.Around 2000 community organisations on the Gold Coast undertake great work at the grassroots level, covering areas from acute support services, to craft groups, community transport services and football clubs.
Council has implemented a range of initiatives to support the voluntary sector across the city. It provides resources to support new groups and build the capacity of existing groups. Initiatives include:
- An information kit for clubs and associations that explains how to form a new group or organisation
- Training kits covering the key areas of governance, leadership, accessing funding and strategic planning
- A community directory with a searchable function so residents can locate the most appropriate service for them.
Gold Coast Gives
Gold Coast Gives is a free and secure online donation service facilitated by Gold Coast City Council in conjunction with Our Community.
The Gold Coast Gives site links donors with not-for-profit local community groups, enhancing fundraising capacity and acting as a community hub for information and services. There is also a 'Wishing Well' facility for donation of items such as equipment and furniture.

Ex Council Furniture
Occasionally ex-Council furniture becomes available for donation. Local not-for-profit organisations are eligible to request these items as they become available, as long as evidence of the organisation’s status is able to be provided. If your organisation would like to be notified when any items become available, please register by sending your organisation name and contact details to giving@goldcoast.qld.gov.au.
It is recommended that you also visit the Gold Coast Gives 'Wishing Well' regularly. Any items available for donation from Council will be listed on this site, as well as many more opportunities to receive items from other local donors.
