Water and wastewater
From 1 July 2012 Gold Coast City Council will be responsible for water retailing, distribution and wastewater services on the Gold Coast.
Council will own and maintain the significant underground network of water and wastewater (sewerage) mains that deliver water throughout the city and transfer wastewater from homes and businesses.
The $2.7 billion worth of assets that will transfer to Council also includes four wastewater treatment plants, an advanced recycled water treatment plant at Pimpama, 3092 kilometres of water mains, 3143 kilometres of wastewater mains, 527 wastewater pump stations, 56 water pump stations and 65 water reservoirs.
Although Council will be the water and wastewater service provider, the State Government will retain ownership of the bulk water supply. This includes the Hinze Dam and the desalination plant. The State Government will continue to set the wholesale price that Council pays for water.
The State Government owns the drinking (potable) water treatment plants.
As the new water retailer, Council will deliver high quality water and wastewater services across 1400 square kilometres of the Gold Coast.
Our customers comprise a growing population of more than 530,000 residents, local businesses and about 11.5 million visitors each year.
Ratepayers and businesses will receive a bill for water and wastewater services from Council in July.
We are currently working on a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) as part of the transition of water and wastewater services back to Council. These will be added to this page as the information becomes available. We encourage customers to revisit this page for further information updates in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, for more information on water visit www.allconnex.com.au or call 1300 000 928.
From 1 July, all information on water and wastewater services will be available on this website. The contact telephone number for water enquiries will remain the same - 1300 000 928.
