Arts and culture
The Gold Coast's arts and creative community is leading a cultural revolution. Our city is being re-imagined. We are energetic, unexpected and distinctly Gold Coast.
Our commitment is to deliver the ambitious vision set in the City of Gold Coast's first Culture Strategy by 2023.
Our $7 million arts sector investment, via the Accelerated Cultural Development Program, has resulted in an outstanding cultural legacy for the city:
- providing professional development and building capacity of the arts sector
- inclusion of world class, high quality local content in Festival 2018 Gold Coast, the arts and culture program of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games
- delivery of a transformative public art program
- delivery of the $365 million cultural precinct.
These activities ensured that the city came alive with cultural offerings during the Games.
The new strategic direction has already seen a fresh focus in several areas, including increased arts funding, elevating and celebrating our rich Indigenous heritage, contemporary music, and mentoring local talent in non-traditional and innovative art forms.
We will support our local artists and cultural community through new initiatives to ensure they have the opportunities they need to thrive.
Opportunities
Urban Oasis public art commission
An Urban Oasis will soon sprout from the ground in the centre of the Gold Coast’s bustling tourist precinct. The work, titled Urban Oasis, to be created by international artist Alex Pentek, comprises four stainless steel shield ferns, standing eleven metres tall together accompanied by a series of ground panels.
Our strategy
The Culture Strategy 2023 steers us toward a future where culture is central to our community well-being, our city's reputation, liveability and our economic growth.
Our team
Our Arts and Culture Unit supports the development of the local arts and cultural community to create a vibrant, distinct and world class city.
