Generate program

Embracing the opportunity that the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) brings to the City, GENERATE is a unique program of development and production for individual artists and/or organisations that are creative, ambitious and bold.

This three-stage program will bring together artists, creatives and collectives to develop content for the GC2018 arts and cultural program.

Navigate: Young artist development program 2018

The City is offering 10 young and emerging Gold Coast creatives the opportunity to undertake a eight month program of support, including group professional development activities and a grant of up to $8000 towards an individual career development activity.


CREATIVE GOLD will be a series of onsite activation at eight events within the City of Gold Coast’s calendar of events. These events attract families who may or may not currently attend arts and culture based events already as part of the city’s calendar. The goal is to showcase the arts and cultural offerings on the Gold Coast – and some which are yet to be discovered.

Arts Organisations Triennial Funding Program

Gold Coast based organisations and groups delivering an annual program of arts and cultural activity may apply for funding to deliver activities over three years (2019 – 2021).

Workshop: Media & marketing bootcamp for musicians/artists

This free workshop is designed for any artist, musician or creative practitioner who is ready to share their story, event or product with the media. The workshop will be pitched at various skill levels – from complete novices to those artists with some experience in the media.

LENS Project 2018

LENS embraced the rich diversity of Gold Coast artists by showcasing the work of local photographers and writers, with the help of cultural influencers.

Community activation and artist mentorship announced

The City of Gold Coast announced the interdisciplinary art collective Lumen Cloud as the recipient of the Gateways Public Art Commission mentorship. The Lumen Cloud duo of Michelle Xen and Richard Candy are the recipients of the $10,000 grant was designed to expand their experience and understanding of how to create works for the public realm.

Professional attachment program opportunities

For Gold Coast based creatives or technicians working in the performing arts, looking to expand their experience in understanding how to create or deliver projects for an arts and culture festival of significant scale and to learn from world class mentors.

To support the development of arts and culture creatives and production technicians on the Gold Coast, the City of Gold Coast offered highly motivated individuals a range of professional paid attachments.

Live music advisory group

Experienced local music sector musicians, venue owners or professional services including management, public relations or technical, can play an important role in shaping the future of the live music scene on the Gold Coast by joining the Live Music Advisory Group.

Urban Oasis: G:link wrap commission

We searched for artists to create an artwork on the Gold Coast’s own light rail - the G:link. Now you decide on the art that wraps the light rail for the summer. Thanks to support from the Queensland Government’s Department of Transport and Main Roads, GoldlinQ and GoTransit.

beingNOWhere creative lab with Jeremy Neideck

In late May 2017, applications were invited for arts and cultural workers to participate in the beingNOWhere Creative Lab. Eight successful applicants have been paired with someone of a different artistic, creative, cultural, or linguistic background with whom they are embarking on a six-week part-time program of collaboration, experimentation, and play. Dr Jeremy Neideck, guest speaker from the FUSE Cultural Diversity in the Arts Forum is leading this program.
