Australia Day Celebrations 2019

The City of Gold Coast Australia Day Celebrations were held on 26 January 2019 at Broadwater Parklands, Southport. Details of the 2020 event will be announced in due course.

The 2019 event was headlined by Mason Rack Band, the winners of the Gold Coast Music Award’s 2018 Best Live Act, and supported by an impressive line-up of local talent.

The free event was held from 4pm to 8pm with a spectacular fireworks display at 7.45pm. The night also boasted delicious food vendors and the JJ Richards ‘Aussie Activities Zone’.

A wonderful afternoon was celebrated with great music, food, fun and fireworks.

  • What time is the event?

    The event starts at 4pm and concludes at 8pm.

  • What time are the fireworks?

    The fireworks will start at 7.45pm. The spectacular fireworks display is set to rival New Year’s Eve; crowds will be wowed by the high powered jet skis while the fantastic fireworks light up across the Broadwater in an amazing 15-minute display.

  • What's not free?

    There will be a bunch of food vendors serving delicious snacks and drinks that can be purchased on the night. Support our drought-stricken farmers and head to the Rural Aid Australia stand and either donate a gold coin or purchase some of their fundraising merchandise. There will be an ATM available at the event.

  • What will I see at the event?

    Mason Rack Band, the winners of the Gold Coast Music Award’s 2018 Best Live Act, will be supported by an incredible line-up of local Gold Coast talent including Wayward Suns, Mistram and Katie Who.

    The kids will love the JJ Richards ‘Aussie Activities Zone’. Relive the fun of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and give beach volleyball a try down by the Broadwater. The little athletes of the family will love the ‘Mini-Commonwealth-Games’.

    The Gold Coast Titans will be set up on the lawn behind the main stage with activities for the whole family.

    Spend the day relaxing then head to the Broadwater Parklands from 4pm and fill up from the all-nations food truck feast before grabbing a spot on the lawn for one of the city’s most spectacular fireworks displays at 7.45pm.

  • What about the pool party?

    The Gold Coast Aquatic Centre Pool Party is being held at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre from 11am to 2pm. Normal admission charges apply.

  • What public transport will get me there?

    Catch the G:link to Broadwater Parklands or make your journey active and walk, ride, scoot or skate to the event.

  • Where can I park?

    There will be no parking available at Broadwater Parklands on the day. However, Southport is exempt from parking charges on public holidays. Parking areas close to Broadwater Parklands include Cloyne Road (Marshall Lane), Mal Burke Car Park and Carey Car Park.

  • Can I bring alcohol?

    No, this is an alcohol free event.

  • Can I bring my pet?

    For the wellbeing of all attending the event, we recommend pets are left at home.

  • What if it rains?

    If the event is cancelled due to wet weather or for any other reason, we will update the Facebook event page, or listen to 92.5 Gold FM for updates.
