Botanic Gardens Education Program

The Botanic Gardens Education Program is a free interactive outdoor learning experience for school children (Prep to Grade 12) and their teachers. Students can get hands on with our natural flora and fauna, environment and heritage, reinforcing knowledge learned in the classroom and inspiring a lifelong love of the environment.

The program is curriculum-aligned to support and complement classroom studies, and is developed and delivered by the experienced environmental scientists and educators from Natura Pacific.

For primary school students we offer 11 different lessons to choose from. Lessons run for two hours with maximum 30 students per group. For more detail, download the Education Brochure or refer to the table below.

High school programs are available in the learning areas of science, geography and history, and can be delivered as two hour lessons or half day workshops. Examples of half day workshops include:

  • Freshwater ecosystems – A hands-on workshop about the complexities and importance of the health of our waterways and catchments. Students will collect and test water samples for both chemical and biological properties, analyse and reflect on the results and conduct an overall assessment of the waterways and their surrounding environments.
  • Exploring plant communities - This interactive workshop will introduce students to the incredible diversity and intricacies of the plant world. Experience first-hand many of the amazing adaptations that plants have made in order to not only survive and thrive, but also to interact with and support the ecosystem in which they live.
  • Biodiversity in the Gardens - What is biodiversity? Is it important? This workshop involves activities, discussions and questioning that will guide students to the answers to both these questions. Students will also be introduced to an array of scientific sampling techniques that will show them how the biodiversity of an area is assessed.

For further information, or to book an excursion please email the Education Officer at educationatthegardens@goldcoast.qld.gov.au, or phone Natura Pacific directly on 07 5576 5568.

The Rotary Education Pavilion can also be booked for educational activities only (no private social functions). To book, please visit our Social park gatherings and private functions page and use the online form.
