Parking in Broadbeach

The City has implemented further improvements to parking in Broadbeach, including pay-by-plate parking meters* in Surf Parade. When parking in Surf Parade, enter your vehicle registration details at a parking meter in that street to receive the first 30 minutes of parking for free. Additionally, the rate for parking in eastern Queensland Avenue and Old Burleigh Road has been reduced to $1.50 per hour.

* By the end of September 2019 all parking meters in Broadbeach will have been converted to pay-by-plate.

These changes have been introduced to manage high demand for car parking in the area, and to make it easier for customers, residents and visitors to park in the Broadbeach commercial precinct and beachfront (Capricornia Avenue south, along Old Burleigh Road to Margaret Street).

Important note: Areas of Broadbeach fall within the Central Traffic Area. Three-hour time restrictions are in place between the hours of 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, except where linear street signage states otherwise.

Streets with no colour shown on the ‘Parking in Broadbeach’ map (above) fall under this three-hour (3P) time-restricted parking between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

The parking restrictions below apply seven days a week (9am to 7pm), including public holidays:

These new parking regulations will:

  • increase vehicle turnover of parking spaces in high demand areas to improve parking availability
  • better utilise parking in less desirable locations
  • reduce congestion and the number of cars circulating to look for available parking
  • fund improvements to the local area.

More information about parking in Broadbeach:

  • Demand responsive pricing was introduced in Surf Parade and the Gold Coast Highway (parking prices are higher in peak demand periods and lower in off-peak periods).
  • Progressive pricing was introduced to Albert Avenue where the length of parking availability has been increased to four (4) hours, with the first hour at a reduced fee.
  • The first 30 minutes of parking in Surf Parade is free when you use the new pay-by-plate parking meters (follow the on-screen instructions for use; valid once per day for each vehicle).
  • Parking fees have been reduced in eastern Queensland Avenue (between Surf Parade and Old Burleigh Road) and northern Old Burleigh Road (between Queensland Avenue and Victoria Avenue) to $1.50 per hour, for up to the maximum signed stay (3 and 4 hours).
  • Queensland Avenue is metered between Old Burleigh Road and Gold Coast Highway, with parking stays between one and three hours.
  • The north eastern section of Old Burleigh Road (between Queensland Avenue and Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club) is metered parking.

Where can I park for free?

  • There are 230 free beachfront parking spaces along Old Burleigh Road (between Charles Avenue and Alexandra Avenue).
  • There are 60 free beachfront parking spaces along Broadbeach Boulevard (between Queensland Avenue and Australia Avenue).
  • The public car park adjacent to Kurrawa Surf Club is free for three (3) hours.

By offering a combination of free, paid and timed parking spaces we can manage the growing demand for parking and ensure that everyone has access to our beaches and businesses.

Works to install new signage and parking meters will take place during off-peak periods to minimise impacts to nearby residents and businesses.
