Clean & Healthy Beaches

Sparkling beaches and waterways are synonymous with the Gold Coast and so Gold Coast City Council invests into a range of cleaning and management services to ensure our beaches and foreshores retain their sparkle.
Thirty six (36)Â kilometres of ocean beaches on the mainland are swept between midnight and sunrise on every day of the year.
Council has six crews of two people who patrol the 860 kilometres of tidal waterways within the City and remove over 1000 tonnes per year of floating debris.
Council also provides funding to facilitate participation in the Keep Australia Beautiful Council’s Clean Beach Challenge.
Surfers Paradise took out the overall award for 2005 and Palm Beach is the only place to have won the overall award twice (in 1999 and 2000).
