Council Cab Service

The Gold Coast City Council Cab assists older people and those with a disability with travel to their local shopping centre.

Council Cab Service

The City of Gold Coast (City) Council Cab service provides a door to door transport option for eligible Gold Coast residents.

If you are over 60 years of age or have a disability card and you live in one of the service catchment areas you are eligible to utilise the Council Cab service. The service is an affordable transport option for residents allowing them to travel to their local shopping centre with their carer or dependants for a minimal fee.

Regain independence

Getting out and about is important for your wellbeing. Whether shopping or socialising, the trip out of the house is a welcome break for many people.

If you are over 60 years or you have a disability and you live in one of the catchment areas, then you are eligible to travel in a Council Cab. You can have a carer or dependents travel with you if you like.

Convenient and affordable

Services run on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday morning each week. Each Council Cab trip costs $2 per person, that's only $4 for a return journey. Now that's great value.

It's door to door

The Council Cab will pick you up in the morning from your home (the operator will give you an approximate time when you book) and take you to the shopping centre. If you have booked a return trip then they will take you home around lunchtime. You can confirm the times when you book.

How do I register

Registration is easy. Simply download the form from our website, request a copy by calling us on 07 5582 8211 or 1300 GOLDCOAST (1300 465 326), or by visiting one of our customer service centres. Complete the form and return it to the City with a copy of the relevant documents. Once it has been processed, the City will send you a letter to advise you are registered for the service.

If you have a walker, trolley or other special needs just let them know when you book. You can reserve your seat at any time before midday on the day before service.

It's friendly and safe

People who use Council Cabs tell us that they love the service. They find it safer than other transport and they enjoy sharing a coffee after shopping and making new friendships.

Hearing impairment

If you have a hearing impairment, you can book through the ACE TTY service on 13 36 77.

Wheelchair access

You can request a wheelchair accessible vehicle if required when you book.

Parcels and packages

We try to keep everyone happy and make sure that they go home with the right shopping. Zippered bags are great and green bags are easier to manage than plastic. If you need to bring a shopping cart or trolley just let the operator know.

Service interruptions

Certain times of the year get pretty busy on the Gold Coast, especially during occasional events (e.g. Melbourne Cup) and around Christmas, and some services can be disrupted so remember to check ahead for service details at these busy times.

Cancelling your booking

If you book and later decide not to travel, then please remember to cancel your booking so that someone else can have a seat and to avoid inconvenience to fellow passengers.
