Your pets don't like to party

Dog dresses with with New Year's Eve decorations

While you're having fun watching the fireworks on New Year's Eve, your pets may not be having such a good time. Dogs in particular may be afraid of fireworks and try to run away, sometimes injuring themselves in the process or ending up in the city pound.

A few helpful hints:

  • Ensure your pets are safely contained (preferably inside).
  • Pets should have a registration tag and/or ID tag and be micro-chipped as an identified pet is never lost for long.
  • Seek advice from you vet as to methods to help calm your pet.

For more advice about caring for your pets during fireworks, visit our Pet education page.

Keeping you and your family safe

City of Gold Coast has 215 fixed closed-circuit TV (CCTV) cameras in key entertainment precincts of Southport, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach and Coolangatta.

During New Year's Eve, we work with local police to use CCTV cameras in busy precincts to keep visitors and locals safe. The cameras are monitored around the clock, with police immediately notified about safety issues.
