Parking signs

Common signage and road markings

All signs are installed in accordance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). If no times are indicated on the sign, then the type of parking control applies at all times. In regard parking signs, 1/4P means one quarter of an hour; 1P means one hour; 2P means two hours, and so on.

Where days are noted on the sign, restrictions are applicable on those days only, and no restrictions apply on public holidays. If days are not stated, restrictions apply 7 days per week, including public holidays.

2P parking areas

Parking in nominated traffic area locations is restricted to a maximum of two (2) hours during the hours stipulated.


*Timed parking and paid parking

High demand parking bays have a unique four-digit number allocated to them. These bay numbers are assigned to in-ground sensors, which are used to provide:

  • valuable historical data to determine best use of parking and promote vehicle turnover for businesses in the area
  • live data, which will be used to build a smart phone app, allowing for real-time access to parking availability by region and tariff.
